Listen to and Access Grooveshark on Your Desktop
Do you want to access Grooveshark directly from your desktop instead of maintaining an open browser window? If so, then the Grooveshark Desktop App is just what you are looking for.
The app is easy to set up since it comes in a portable format. Just unzip the app folder, place it in Program Files (or another convenient location), and create a shortcut for the Grooveshark.exe file. You do not even need a Grooveshark account to use the app…but the app does provide access to your account if desired.
System Requirements: You will need to have the .NET Framework 4.0 (or higher) and Adobe Flash Player installed.

This is one of the most interesting portable tool about which I posted recently.
Something similar for Linux?
@eMcEu – If I run across a version that will run on Linux, I will definitely write it up! ^_^
the softpedia description also lists, as a feature, the desktop ad removes ‘ugly ads’.
haven’t we had enough good music services (imeem) go down b/c they couldn’t generate enough revenue or b/c people (us) still try to get too much (everything) for free?
i removed the app and will gladly pay for the service by ‘suffering’ through the ads or pay $3/mo

if you want to pay to stream music
Rdio — has great sound and an incredible library — $5/month
Napster — $5/month plus 5 free mp3 downloads a month
but for free and no ads, try
mixpod — don’t know how hey do it, but they are legal
This is ridiculous!! .NET 4 just for embedding a browser control!! Seriously, this could have been done with .NET 1.1 in under 5 minutes between double clicking visual studio and having the program compiled and ready to ship. Note that I’m counting the time to get grooveshark’s icon ready.
My app is not working. It says “If Grooveshark does not load, please ensure that you have the latest version of Flash Player installed, and Javascript enabled.” what should I do?
@Techiz – The first thing that I would recommend is for you to visit FileHippo to download the latest versions of Flash (IE & Non-IE) along with the latest update for Java Runtime Environment. It may be just a matter of one or both needing an update.
Prism would work better for just having Grooveshark on your desktop, but if you want a full desktop experience, you really should upgrade to VIP. Its Desktop app has keyboard shortcuts and notifications.
@AsianAngel – I have tried all the updates from the FileHippo but still the desktop version is unable to work and gives the same error. I have windows 7 ultimate and has all the updated software. what is the problem?
@Techiz – Please check your inbox…I sent out an e-mail to you with some links and such that will hopefully help fix the problem. ^_^
@AsianAngel – Thanks for the help and link.I will report if the problem gets solved.
