Security firm McAfee has just added it’s own new URL shortening service to the multitude already available. Is this the beginning of a new trend in security vendors creating their own URL shortening services?
Here is a quick overview of how it works. When you enter a website URL to be shortened it will be done immediately and without scanning. It is only when a person clicks on the shortened URL that the checking is done.
From the article: The company will use some of the same databases it uses for its SiteAdvisor service and other security products to help ensure that the destination isn’t malicious or spammy.
