How to View Stock Quotes from the Command Line
If you spend loads of time at the command line on your Linux, Mac, or Cygwin terminal, here’s the simple trick to view stock quotes from the command line.
It really is very simple… just pop this into your terminal window:
curl -s 'http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=aapl&f=l1'
And you’ll see the stock price for Apple.

Windows users may want to try Wget.exe
WGET -q -O R:Stocks.CSV “http://download.finance.yahoo.com/d/quotes.csv?s=msft,&f=sl1&e=.csv”
Wget can be found at http://users.ugent.be/~bpuype/wget/
And one could integrate this on the actual shell prompt, so if he/she works on the command line all day long, he/she is aware of the stock quotes all the time.
