something I remember from an interview about the effects in Voyager.

they used a 3D model of the Ship alongside a real model. they worked hard on making them indistinguishable except for 1 thing.

if you see the windows under the hanger bay lit, it’s the 3D model. the real model, they couldn’t run the lights there.

I miss the Star Trek genre, a new series would be cool.

I just finished watching ST Enterprise and I wish they’d bring that crew back for another run. I didn’t get to see it while it was aired, only the DVD release. It’s my favorite out of all of them and I miss it.

Is it me or as the state-of-the-art in producing motion pictures and TV series has progressed the stories have become less about the possibilities and alternatives and more about the flashy effects. Every sci-fi series has a certain amount of ‘great episodes’ to dogs where it is apparent that the writer and director were more or less phoning it in…Trolling the effects closet to paper over holes in an otherwise weak story. It wasn’t until the third season of ST:TOS that the great episode to dog ratio slipped into the dogs favor…but even the dogs had some great moments.

Anyway, I got off the ST merry-go-round with DS9. Being a new parent became more important than keeping up with Picard, Sisko and Janeway. I was totally out of ‘Enterprise’ because I didn’t understand how the first starship Enterprise could have gone unmentioned in the previous umpteen years of stories. How did they patch that gaping hole?

Appleton you should definitelly give the last series a chance. It is very unique and after a few introductive episodes it is thrilling as never before.
