I personally always use WolframAlpha. It has up to now known every unit I threw at it and is especially useful, if you have long formulae filled with several different quantities of different dimensions, units and even unit systems.
Throw in some obscure constants and it can save you hours of looking up and calculating values.

For simple conversions usually Google does the trick. There’s also a handy linux package for quick unit conversions called “units” in most repos.

Usually when working on physics problems or in the lab I always have a couple of wolfram alpha tabs open, so I can just plug in values to get what I want with associated errors.

+1 – I can’t believe WolframAlpha is not in the list.

  3. Andy

Most of the time in Windows, I just use the built in calculator app – just select view, unit conversion. If that does not have the conversion I want then I just type it into google – no additional apps required.

    Another Interesting website – Sooeet ! http://www.sooeet.com/

  5. Matt

I use Google. Quick and easy.

  6. Roger

All of these separate tools are redundant now that WolframAlpha exists – which can do all of this and much, much more.

  7. LadyFitzgerald

The downside to WolframAlpha is an internet connection is needed. I’ve used converber for unit conversion other than monetary.

Windows 7’s built in calulator has a good unit conversion function for all units except monetary.

Most of these tools provide more info than a simple calculator or Google. There is some useful info here. Thanks
