When a descent case costs more than a small refrigerator (without power supply even)! This may be more common than you might think.
What country do you live in where you can buy refrigerators for US$25 ? That will even buy you a chassis in third world countries like ours. $50 gets you a decent chassis and $100 a High End Chassis.

This is no real saving because here in RSA if I want a psu I have to buy the box too they are not available without it but good for demonstrations. This is a real computer and this was the time of the Pentium 2 and the AMD k5/6 running Windows 95/98
Don’t laugh, I ran one like that for about a year and a half till I could afford a case for it. Worked great
Well it’s easy to work on, I considered building mine on a 1/4″ plywood board and just putting in my desk drawer. Actually I probably will on my next build.
This brings old memories of the AMD processors Micros**t 95/98 blue screens of death uncompatibilities back-ups not worth tghe media used to make them the endless referring you to the “Administrator” on a stand alone computer and other types of fun that make your index finger itchy for using a Uzi on the designers of Windows
that’s what we used to call a “breadboard” rig, eveything out in the open, easy to fix, troubleshoot and modify.
Agreed Gunner. Brings back memories of lots of breadboard rigs I used to cobble together.
And to the person complaining about case prices, there are like 9000 places that will GIVE you an old case, if you aren’t picky. Almost any computer repair shop throws away perfectly usable cases every day. Can’t sell em, no one will buy. Landfills are full of them! Hell, I have 3-4 in my garage you can have.
@ Buttons: A refrigerator would make a great case for overclocking and keeping your drinks cold.
I have 2 computer that are configured similar, except they are sitting on the desk instead of mounted to the wall.
