*NERD ALERT*
Voyager technically had a counselor in the form of Neelix.
Technically, Data was Operations Officer. Wesley Crusher was Next Generation’s most common helmsman
Fun chart. Does anyone know what the colors signify?
I kept looking, and saw that the colors represent uniform color.
*NERD ALERT*
The colors of the uniforms generally refer to the officer’s department.
Red = Command (Helm/Navigation)
Blue = Science/Medical
Yellow = Operations(Security/Engineering)
Though it does seem to change a little from series to series.
You know, before I answer any more questions there’s something I wanted to say. Having received all your letters over the years, and I’ve spoken to many of you, and some of you have traveled… y’know… hundreds of miles to be here, I’d just like to say… get a life, will you people? I mean, for crying out loud, it’s just a TV show! I mean, look at you, look at the way you’re dressed! You’ve turned an enjoyable little job, that I did as a lark for a few years, into a colossal waste of time! I – I mean, how old are you people? What have you done with yourselves?
William Shatner, SNL
Seriously “r”? You know, my 4 year old would tell you “It takes one to know one!” :)
Harry, in the Original Series, the Reboot and Enterprise, the colors were:
Gold (or yellow, as some folks see it): Command/Administration
Blue: Medical & Sciences
Red: Engineering & Security
In TNG era and beyond, red and gold traded roles. The gray colors indicate characters who were not actual Starfleet personnel but served a specific function aboard ship.
Jadzia Dax may have been helmsman when deployed on the Defiant, but she was Science Officer of Deep Space Nine. She was also assigned as Captain of the Defiant during the Dominion War while Sisko was stationed as Admiral Ross’ adjutant at Starbase 374.
Neelix was indeed the counselor on Voyager, but Harry Kim was the communications officer, so they could have put either of them there.
Also, Bashir being genetically enhanced is a minor spoiler from the last or second to last season (that really didn’t matter anyway).
Lastly, that is a really old picture of O’Brien. Did he ever look like that on DS9? That looks like year one TNG (or whenever he first appeared in his no-name role as “Transporter chief”).
I grew up in the same town as Kate Mulgrew. My grandparents home was across the street from her parents home and as a kid, she would come over and babysit me and my brothers and sisters. Later, I ended up attending H.S. with her younger sister. Strange small world.
If you want to know about the uniforms and meanings the check the AVATARS on http://www.startrek.com each is listed and more great stuff to explore.
