    Recovered from planet Hoth

Maybe it’s just me but I’m just seeing an extremely dusty computer interior.

    It’s not just you.

  4. Danny

What are you implying that is in the case?

The link below the pic mentions a sugar refinery, so dust or something from processing in the plant

The Ronco computer, Just set it (up) and forget it. Hay people, a little maintenance.

so is that powdered or granulated sugar. You would think that they might consider some sort of exterior filter, like a cheesecloth or something.

Just superglue a stick to it and bingo …. a geek lolly-pop ! Yummm

They should have used filters for the fan on that Dell.

I worked maintenance at a candy factory. The boss opened the computerized control panel as I was walking by. The panel wasn’t as bad as this computer, but it was a mess. I found that there were filters (completely clogged) that hadn’t been replaced in the 7 years the plant had been in operation. The clogged filters probably kept the panel from being worse, but they also blocked air flow, in a hot environment. I cleaned the panel after hours on a Sunday, when it was shut down, and replaced the filters. I suggested they be changed monthly, since there is so much sugar filament in the air.

Candy Factories have sugary dust I guess.

All the sugar is secondary to me thinking… have you flipped this image on it’s horizontal axis or was someone really stupid enough to build a backwards case!?

I have seen something similar, although quite a bit worse, when working on-site at a cement plant, and at another concrete casting plant.

Imagine a computer as in the picture above.
Now consider that instead of sugar powder – think 2 times as deep and it is cement dust.

Funnily – we took an old server out of the plant and cleaned it up, blew approx 3.0 Kg of cememtn out of the box and it is still working just fine today 2 years later.

I had 28 computers covered in a tent while I found a permanent workshop to repair them. A violent storm came through before I got to it (10 hour work shifts and limited space). Anyway, I should’ve taken some pictures, (EwEwuh (shiver)) the state they were in would make a Geek cry.

Super fine sugar dust can actually catch on fire. In fact back in 2008 at the Imperial Sugar refinery such a thing happened & 4 people died. Luckily this pc wasn’t the catalyst for such a thing.

Holy sugar, is that a backwards case???
