One word:
Firefly
The X-Files, for sure.
Fringe is a close second!
eureka used to have the top spot. Battlestar Galactica, Alias, MST3K, Firefly, X-Files, Sliders, LOST, Chuck, Red Dwarf, Cosmos, Defying Gravity
now it’s big bang theory, doctor who, sherlock, dirk gently, the IT crowd, Fringe, Breaking Bad (admit it, it’s geeky)
I’m going to have to disagree with Mythbusters. Sure it’s geeky, but they don’t really stick to the scientific method. #IMHO
Mystery Science Theater 3000
I got to meet the Cinematic Titanic crew this past spring in Detroit. OMG it was amazing! I SHOOK HANDS WITH JOEL! *squeeeee* And with Trace (who is an avid Maker fan!), Mary Jo, TV’s Frank, and Josh (whose bass playing ability is amazing). They were some of the most kind, *genuine*, funny, intelligent, and talented people I’ve ever been lucky enough to meet.
Yeah, yeah, I know…cool story, bro. But for me, it was like the completion of a 20-year journey. :3
My other faves:
Mr. Wizard, on Nickelodeon — I’d watch him before school every day.
Ren & Stimpy
How It’s Made
The Universe
Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman
And my all-time geekiest favorite: Demonstrations in Physics, presented by Professor Julius Sumner Miller. That man exuded such passion and levity in his work, that he still inspires me to learn, even though I watched his shows on PBS nearly 30 years ago. The world needs many more like Professor Miller.
Speaking of Professor Miller, enjoy this information from the Wikipedia article on the man:
Miller was intolerant of misspelled words and misplaced punctuation and often angered his colleagues because he charged that the students of most faculty were not learning enough. During an interview in the 1940s, he stated that intellectual life in America was in trouble, a belief he held for the rest of his life.
“We are approaching a darkness in the land. Boys and girls are emerging from every level of school with certificates and degrees, but they can’t read, write or calculate. We don’t have academic honesty or intellectual rigor. Schools have abandoned integrity and rigor.”
Battlestar Galactica! The new version.

Has to be a bunch already listed but I’m shocked a couple didn’t make everyone else’s list:
Doctor Who (original, not the new series)
Blake’s 7
Mister Wizard
Millenium (well, except for the third season)
Twilight Zone
The Prisoner
Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes (Gene Hoont!!!)
Kolchak: The Night Stalker
Star Trek (“TOS” && “TNG” && “DS9″ && “VOY” != “ENT”)
Dr. ?
Quantum Leap
Big Bang Theory (I know its only for wannabe geeks, but I still like it)
Battlestar Galactica (1978 and 1979)
Firefly
Eureka
IT Crowd
Mythbusters
BigBang Theory
Rated to whats being aired now, what is in netflix / home stream and what is no longer aired:
1. walking dead
2. game of thrones
3. TNG (star trek the next generation)
4. Battle Star Galactica (new one)
5. FireFly
6. Doctor WHO
7. x – files
8. sliders
9. quantum leap
10. IT Crowd
Star Trek Voyager. Every 2 years I watch all 7 seasons.
Current favorites:
Doctor Who (2005) – I hate spoilers. I have avoided all news articles about this to avoid spoilers. Yet they keep finding their way to me in the first line of someone’s text without a [spoiler] warning. From several separate spoilers, I know that [Person] [verb]s in episode [number] in [place] by [enemy]. If anyone can tell me when the first episode of series 7 is to air (without more spoilers) I would greatly appreciate it.
Torchwood – I consider it as still watching Doctor Who
Doctor Who (1963) – Currently have watched only 4 serials for the first doctor, but I am on Tom Baker’s 5th season, plan to watch in order from that point through the 8th, then return to the first 3.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic – I am very nerdy about this show and fandom.
Tennant is best Doctor, Twilight is best pony.
Watch as it gets episodes: (but not a top favorite)
Legend of Korra – Includes all of the developments of technology and fighting styles that came into existance during Aang’s travels from the original Avatar seires, and still continue to surprise you. Sadly it did not end in a cliffhanger.
Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt – The last 20 seconds of episode 14 will baffle you. (Watch whole season first) And will continue to baffle until it stops being a cliffhanger.
Actively / Passively watch:
Futurama
Big Bang Theory – (I think the inclusion of more characters for episode plots ruined this a bit.)
Web shows & rehashed shows:
Red vs. Blue – I really, really need to catch up on this.
Dragonball Z Abridged – You SERIOUSLY should be watching this. Even if you don’t like anime all that much you can still watch the Dragonball Z Kai Abridged – which is like.. abridged abridged.
My Little Pony: Friendship is Witchcraft – Faked a ceist and desist message to make you think Hasbro was upset with them… Then blurred out all apples, and censored the audio censor (which is the phrase “Buy some apples!”) with a robotic voice saying a random fruit. On behalf of the Dole company. Ahhh… ~ Tech geek humor. Also: Sweetie Belle is unknowingly a deadly robot in voice and dialog.
Past favorites that are no longer running:
Original Pokemon
Megas XLR
One Peice (Dubs) – Until dessert.
Bleach
Death Note – Especailly the first half, since it was more of a chess game
Dragonball Z
X-Files – This has to have been the best live action show I watched as a kid! I should see if it’s on Netflix.
Invader Zim
Teen Titans – THIS IS COMING BACK!! Original cast too! (Titled: Titans GO!)
Avatar: The last Airbender – Books 2 & 3 are alot more interesting to watch than book 1.
Monk
Psych – I think it’s still airing, but I don’t watch it anymore because I figured out too much and the predictability got very annoying. Except the season finalies with Yin and Yang. Those were not predictable.
I really wish they would make a live action Batman series with a 1 hour story format.
The Big Bang Theory
The Big Bang Theory., never a dull moment.
1. Doctor Who
2. Sliders
3. Big Bang Theory
4. Chuck
5. Star Trek TNG

Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman

Star Trek (original and Next Generation)
X-Files
Mystery Science Theater (anything we can find ^^)
A favorite of my husband that I don’t watch is Eureka.

And who bought me the boxed set of Season Two for Christmas a couple of years ago now (because I had immediately gone out and bought Season 1 – my friends know me pretty well).
Big Bang Theory
Firefly
Primeval
Red Dwarf
Star Trek: The Next Generation
Star Trek: Voyager
Hands down it’s THE BIG BANG THEORY!
Mythbusters,
beyond the wormhole,
daily planet,
Reboot
Wow! So many old shows I had forgotten! Mr Wizard for sure. I recreated one of his experiments (I think it was an RC cola and baking soda, creating an erupting mess). I was banned from any more experiments.
Don’t forget Adventures of Superman, Buck Rogers and Captain Video.
In more modern times I love Big Bang Theory, Through The WormHole, most of the Discovery , Sci and H2 programming. Also the “factual” UFO programming. The Geek still lives deep inside my 7 decades old body.
Firefly
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Eureka
Warehouse 13
There are so many great shows, past and present, that have captivated audiences all over the world it’s hard to not have a list 25 shows long but on top of my list is The Big Bang Theory.
Current or relatively current:
Big Bang Theory
Dr. Who
Eureka
Warehouse 13
Classics:
Babylon 5
ST:DS9
ST:TNG
ST:TOS
Firefly
Geek TV? I’ll go with “geek” meaning nerd-core and exclude all forms of scifi.
* Chuck – the first episode had me hooked. Who thought that pron-popups could save the world?
* IT Crowd
* Mythbusters (haven’t seen it in many, many years)
If you like dumb man vs physics shows, Wipeout.
There was a rocket show for a few episodes a few yrs ago on discovery or bravo or AMC or Spike or one of those nameless channels in the mid-60s, but they seemed to be more about the art of flying rockets than the science. Still, I watched every episode.
I dislike fantasy. When _Defying Gravity_ started using a Ouija board for plots, they lost me.
Big Bang Theory
Mythbusters
The I.T. Crowd. loved it.
Comedy: Monty Python’s Flying Circus
Animated Cartoon: The Jetsons
Regular Series: Star Trek, Twilight Zone, Lost in Space
@TheFU
You have sparked a curiosity for me to look into Chuck.
Sherlock
Big Bang Theory
Big Bang Theory :-)
Big Bang Theory
Warehouse 13
Star Trek Voyager
All of the Star Treks, of course. But currently it has to be Big Bang Theory. My girlfriend and I watch it every week. We often say that we know these people… then realize we ARE these people.
what is this “TV” of which you speak? is this something to do with the time before Hulu or Netflix?
@bobro
That’s exactly how I started realizing Big Bang Theory was going to lowest denominator humor.
I would say Big Bang Theory now makes fun of geeks, rather than laughs with them
and I totally forgot Hitchiker’s guide, and Monty Python
I would love to hang out with all you guys….funny stuff
IT CROWD!!
Does nobody enjoy Stargate???? (All of them!)
and of course . . .
Star Trek – the whole lot :)
Battlestar Galactica (Original and new)
Firefly,
Farscape,
Falling Skies
The Walking Dead
Primeval
Warehouse 13
Big Bang Theory (more down to Earth, but as geeky as they get)
Mythbusters comes in as well – I enjoy the ‘Lets overdo it endings’ :)
The Big Bang Theory
Modern Family
Big Bang Theory, of course!
One glaring omission that I see – Reboot. It was an animated series with a short run but a very cool concept – life inside a computer.
Well obviously Doctor Who
Falling Skies
Walking Dead
The Big Bang Theory
Leverage
Used to like Chuck, but then after a while it got too cheesey (still continued to watch it though)
Warehouse 13
Eureka
Doctor Who (but it has jumped the shark)
Lost Girl
Supernatural. anything with ghosts demons or spirits
I don’t know if I actually consider these “geeky”, but:
Star Trek (TOS)
Space:1999
UFO
Mystery Science Theater 3000
Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons
Thunderbirds

Most of my faves have already been mentioned. I’m going to nominate “The Finder” for Walter’s unique problem-solving techniques.

Community
Dr Who!!!
I like some of the others but not enough to put them on this list. DW is truly the only one I HAVE to see.
OOPS, Too hasty a response. I assumed truly geeky stuff, not regular television shows that might have geek appeal.
Eureka
Falling Skies
the original Battlestar Galactica
anything Star Trek
MacGyver (though I have seen them all too many times)
Stargate SG1
way too many that have fallen off the radar (I guess MacGyver should be in this group)
I think it’s a tie between IT Crowd and Mythbusters. Mythbusters is more of a documentary than anything else, but its extremely entertaining… but IT Crowd is pure entertainment. Both are hilarious and full of geekery.
My favorite TV show? What’s TV?
Mythbusters is THE BEST show. There is no denying it.
The Big Bang Theory

7. Vic Reeves Big Night Out
Attack of the Show
Max Headroom
This show came and went so fast that if you blinked you missed it, so maybe I am the only one who saw it. All the shows listed above were pretty good in their own way, but Max Headroom is in a class by itself. It was great SF and it was great SF satire. It was great parody of TV networks, big corporations and most of all it poked fun at all of our sacred cows.

The hilarious “IT Crowd”
Of course Star Trek TOS
The Gumby Show.
Undoubtedly Science Fiction Theater, hosted by Truman Bradley. Stories were extrapolated from
Known science at that time. Some were outright scarey to a kid of 8 years old. Series ran from
1955 through 1958 and is still being rerun. I saw it a few months ago on an HD tv componjent
station of one of thr regular tv channels in Memphis TN. I don’t know if it is still on as I’ve moved on
since then.

For those of us of us, old enough to remember, I nominate: Science Fiction Theater and The Outer Limits.
In no particular order: Star Trek TOS and, well, et al + Nova Science Now + Buck Rogers (Yes, I’m a senior geek – came to it late in life.) + Svengoolie + X-Files + Dr. Who (Tom Baker) + Lost in Space (for a giggle) + COSMOS (god bless Carl Sagan ‘out there’) + Big Bang Theory of course + Fringe (delicious) + Twilight Zone + Primeval (still on PBS) (I just found this program) + anything about UFO’s and aliens (guilty interest) + anything by Issac Asimov, Arthur C. Clark, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, Frank Herbert, Jules Verne, H.G. Wells, and Stephen King (too many to mention) + anything by Stephen Spielberg and/or George Lucas + those 1950′s black-and-white science fiction movies (scared me to death and I loved it!) + way too many more to list. If this is the mark of a geek then most of the population must be geeky! I enjoy all the How-to Geek discussions. This was fun.
<Old enuff to remember The Outer Limits – still in syndacation
The Twilight Zone (original)

My daughter is FAR from a geek but one day she was watching some show on TV. I asked her “what is this geek show you’re watching?” She said “The Big Bang Theory”, “It’s hysterical mom”. I’ve been hooked on it ever since. So am I now officially a geek? LOL.
Its the Big Bang Theory!!
And if it counts, Supernatural (complete series)
And did I mention the Big Bang Theory?
IT Crowd
Big Bang Theory
#1 Big Bang Theory – The new MASH…MASH wasn’t geeky but I still laugh even after seeing them over and over…same with BBT, over and over again and I still laugh, and it’s technically accurate…that’s ‘geekdom’
#2 Babylon 5 – Totally destroyed the Trekker in me and Claudia Christian..WOW!
#3 UFO – Gerry Anderson at his best…and the girls with the purple hair…
#4 Space:1999 – For the sets alone it was a favorite…the writing, less so, they were ‘Brits’ who weren’t used to writing for the American Sci-Fi TV Show market. Still the actors pulled it off and created something enduring.
#5 Firefly – Only because I haven’t seen them all, over and over again, yet…like the shows I grew up with.
It truly says something about where the current Geek/Sci-Fi TV Show market these days is when we’ve got wrestling and ghost shows on the Sci-Fi channel, I mean C’mon! Next we’ll have The National Geographic Channel showing reality shows about prisons.
1) Big Bang Theory (Sheldon reminds me of my oldest son, only not quite so socially inept)
Doctor Who
NCIS
Supernatural (gotta have a little of the dark side…)
Kingdom Hospital (Stephen King – awesome)
