Mmph. Well, that’s optimistic.
That is, unless you foresee the human need to express– no matter how banally– the belief that being “me” is unique, and in some way worthy of being valued because of that uniqueness, suddenly disappearing from the human psyche.
The only difference between the expression of the drive to be seen and acknowledged now, versus how it has been historically expressed is that technology has, for good or ill, is that technology has made possible for the masses to be “seen” easily and cheaply. So long as that remains the case, my expectation is that the “fad” of social networking will continue to grow… though I do expect that it will break itself into ever smaller and more diversified chunks.
