If you’re looking for a novel little stunt to impress your friends this Fourth of July, these tiny matchstick rockets are a cheap and easy trick to pull out of your sleeve.

Courtesy of Grathio Labs, all you’ll need is a book of matches, a pin, a paper clip, and some aluminum foil. Watch the video to see how it all comes together:

As always, play safely with the fun-but-potentially-dangerous projects we share.

I used to make these as a kid, back in the late 60s, early 70s.

    Cheap fun..

Same here only in the mid 60s.

    US resident here.

As awesome as this is (I’ve used it in lessons), given the prolonged heat wave and accompanying dry spell most of the US is experiencing right now, the timing is questionable. Sure, there’s a disclaimer, and sure there’s the idea of personal responsibility, but there’s also a larger number of people that will let the cool factor trump all else. Here’s hoping no one burns down my state.

Smokey The Bear would like to have a word with that guy.

Smokey says, “Only you can prevent wild fires.”

No hope doing that right now, I’s raining :(

Don’t be the like guy in Arizona who fired off an incindiary 12 guage shotgun shell and started a humongous fire.

I used to do this also, but we used to use 2 strike anywhere matches placed head to head. Just hold onto the one with the foil wrapped the tightest. The other one shoots out.
