Dropbox Doubles Referral Credit; Score 500MB for Each Friend You Refer

Dropbox is doubling the amount of free storage you get per-referral to 500MB, doubling the previous 250MB credit–better yet, the bonus is retroactive and applies to referrals you’ve already made.

From the DropBox blog:

How much space is that, exactly? For every friend you invite that installs Dropbox, you’ll both get 500 MB of free space. If you’ve got a free account, you can invite up to 32 people for a whopping total of 16 GB of extra space. Pro accounts now earn 1 GB per referral, for a total of 32 GB of extra space. Have you already invited a bunch of people? Don’t worry. Within a few days, you’ll get full credit for every referral that’s already been completed. Boom!

Do I get 1 gig per referal if I have an .edu email attached? If so that would be awesome. Otherwise I wont gain any more space :(

Hey, is there any site or community where we put our referral links and people join dropbox to help each other? In case we don’t have that much friends *forever alone*

    Thanks!

LD, I highly doubt it. Otherwise I’d have 34 GB free account right now (I kind of made Dropbox popular at university when it still wasn’t).

Yesterday my account had 4 GB and today it has 6.8 GB. so it is kind of true.

    Vinizio,

Here’s what I did. I’ve maxed out my referals, and have 20.75gigs.

sorry for being a cynic, but if box.com gives me 50GiB and glide society gives me 30+ GiB just for registering with their services, why should i bother myself with cloud services offering 1-2 GiB?

i had maxed out my referals long ago and it just goes up from 13.25GB to 21.25GB last few days (8GB increased)

Does box.com support windows client desktop folder sync yet?
The only alternative i used similar to dropbox was Windows Live Mesh.

If you visit ‘dropbox.com/edu’, it’s clearly given there that:

“All free accounts, including those previously registered as students, receive 500 MB per referral retroactively and going forward!”

That says everything, no difference between a free and a student account now.
