Any questions about the taxes Google pays ??
Wow, just doing click? coin click coin…
i think you will find they paid very little. Like 2.5% for 2011. Most of their money goes to advertising, people, and normal business expenses. They also take advantage of all ‘tax loopholes’ that are legally provided. They don’t have to lobby for them to use them if the rules are written to their advantage.
Google is known for investing in renewable resources, and taking the tax credits for it, thereby reducing their long term energy costs. I would imagine they ‘write off’ anything they can.
I used to work for a Fortune 500 company oil/gas company as an IT geek supporting the tax and legal departments. We worked hard to take advantage of All the tax breaks that were available, but to stay totally legal. This included property (known as ad-valorem) taxes as well as federal taxes, international taxes, calculating personal income tax for ex-patriates (employees working outside the USA), as well as working with IRS agents that audited EVERY tax return (think of their process is ‘trust but verify … everything’).
One thing I learned is that reducing taxes does make some decisions for some investments more or less profitable. If the profit is there, companies go for it. If it isn’t, they do something else to make money. Tax policies are governmental ways to use as both a carrot and a stick to drive companies to do what they want. Most companies are not ‘evil’. They are all somewhat greedy, basically because their shareholders are just a greedy and the company management really works for the shareholders.
