DIY Car Hack Turns iPhone into Remote Starter
This DIY hack links an iPhone to a car ignition system. While it’s a bit overkill for the job it also lets you start your car from afar like James Bond.
Will O’Brien, with the help of a hacked dock connector, an Arduino, and a homemade circuit board, managed to link up an iPhone to his car’s ignition system. To start he just fires off a text with the ignition code and the car starts up–perfect for warming up your icy car while you’re still stuck in a meeting.

Yeah… right up until the moment some fool break into it to steal your old iphone so they can sell it on ebay.
Any ideas on how to do this with an old Nokia or similar phone that people are less likely to want to steal? That would be useful.
…or one of those cheap month-to-month no contract phones from VirginmobileUSA for $10.
Yeah the cheap part is kinda important since you have to have service on this phone the entire time you want this to work. Most people don’t have multiple cellphones. Especially one dedicated to your car.
Neat proof of concept, but hardly practical.
Does it work using Nokia C7 ???
Nice job, but like it has been said a little overkill for the purpose but still cool, nice job
Ah, come on Kevalin_ you negative thinkin’ stuffed-shirt types spoil all our FUN. Who CARES if what you say happens?_ it’s HIS stuff… lol! Look for the PLUS, not the NEGATIVE, buddy… have some FUN!
thats great would it work on my android?
